چکیده

BACKGROUND There is growing evidence suggesting that interleukin-18 (IL-18) plays a crucial role in viral clearance and disease pathogenesis, and that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) within the gene may influence its production. OBJECTIVES To investigate the potential association of two polymorphisms ( 137G/C and 607C/A) in the promoter region of the IL-18 gene with the risk of HBV recurrence after liver transplantation (LT) in Han Chinese patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS IL-18 promoter genotyping was performed by the snapshot technique in 125 patients with HBV-related end-stage liver disease (ESLD) receiving LT in our center from 2004 to 2008. RESULTS Among the study samples, no significant association between the IL-18 promoter polymorphisms ( 137G/C and 607C/A) or haplotypes and HBV recurrence after LT was found. CONCLUSIONS The polymorphisms ( 137G/C and 607C/A) in the promoter region of the IL-18 gene may not play a key role in HBV recurrence after LT in Han Chinese population, and may not be suitable predictors for HBV recurrence in clinical practice.

Lack of Association between Interleukin-10 Gene Promoter Polymorphisms with HIV Susceptibility and Progression to AIDS

Background & Objective: Interleukin (IL)-10 is an important anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory cytokine. Some authors believe that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) in the promoter region of the IL-10 gene have been associated with susceptibility to HIV infection and progression to AIDS, but its role is not clearly defined yet. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the a...

Lack of association between genetic polymorphisms in cytokine genes and tumor recurrence in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing transplantation.

BACKGROUND Recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after liver transplantation (LT) remains one of the most common causes of poor long-term survival. However, the host genetic factors affecting increased risk of tumor recurrence after transplantation have not been thoroughly elucidated. The present study was designed to investigate the association of cytokine gene polymorphisms with the ri...

Polymorphisms in CISH Gene Are Associated with Persistent Hepatitis B Virus Infection in Han Chinese Population

BACKGROUND AND AIM Cytokine-inducible SRC homology 2 domain protein (CISH) is the first member of the suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS) protein family. An association between multiple CISH polymorphisms and susceptibility to infectious diseases has been reported. This study aimed to investigate the possible association of these single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CISH gene with dif...

Association of interleukin-28B polymorphisms with platelet count and liver function recovery after liver transplant

The present genome-wide association study investigated the relationship of interleukin 28B (IL-28B) genetic variants with HBV susceptibility and prognosis of HBV-infected patients. This study aims to examine the role of IL-28B polymorphisms on transplant etiologies and the liver function recovery in Chinese liver transplant recipients.A total of 231 liver transplant recipients were enrolled in ...

Interleukin 18 Gene Promoter Polymorphisms and Susceptibility to Chronic Hepatitis B Infection: A Review Study

CONTEXT The variation in clinical outcome of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is determined by virological, immunological and host genetic factors. Genes encoding cytokines are one of the candidates among host genetic factors. Polymorphisms in gene promoter can lead to different levels of cytokine expression and unique immune response. Being involved in the inflammatory cytokine network, inter...
